A leaked document reveals that an investigation appears to be taking place, helmed by someone named J. Brandt. If memory serves, we've heard that name before. The exact nature of the investigation remains unclear to me, but judging from the document, we can begin to make some educated guesses.
What do we know about the woman slain that night? The basic answer is known, but it doesn't lead us anywhere. What kind of person was she? Why did ADA contact her and put her in that situation, and not someone else? What is your interpretation of this document and the nested transcript, and why do you think J. Operatives in the field working with the Portals became ‘players.’ Some of them were able to put the pieces together, and an enlightened few saw through the façade. These Operatives saw that despite the best NIA propaganda, mostly facilitated by an extremely talented man by the name of Ken Owen, the Portals and Exotic matter are real. They sensed this. And I think many of them have seen real benefit from the powers of XM.
I felt it in Brownwood, at the grave of Robert E. Howard. At the time, I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, I just knew that often you find the nature of things by looking at the end of things. It was unseasonably cool for June in the middle of Texas. Despite the fact that it had been a long drought, the trees were a rich green. And in that part of central Texas, the trees define the horizon. There are no mountains, and few hills, save for Caddo Peak.
XM pulled me to Cross Plains. And +Carrie Campbell. Carrie tipped me off that there might be a clue to the Glyphs there. Carrie is… was… of course the Semiotician on the Niantic Project who became an expert on Shaper Glyphs. Of a gifted team, she might have been the one I found most intriguing. She spoke with such passion, clarity and credibility that I could listen to her theory on the origin of the capital A for an hour and not be bored.
After what I’ve experienced with XM and Carrie’s deep ties to it, I somehow don’t think she’s gone forever. I certainly hope to hear from her again.

Ken Owen looks back on the challenges faced by the NIA as they attempted to bury the constant stream of revelations emerging from the leak of the Ingress Scanner and the discovery of the Niantic Project.
What's clear from the tone of the memorandum is that the NIA hasn't given up their goal of re-writing the status quo. Those of us in the Investigative Community are among the tiny majority who know the scope and scale of the Ingress coverup, and to the NIA, we are a threat.
No amnesty, the memo promises. The question then, is not whether or not we are in Ken Owen's sights. That much, we can assume is true, or will be very soon. The question is, what does that threat mean? What does it mean to Investigators such as yourselves? What might it mean to those like me or P. A. Chapeau who stand closer to the center of the leaks. What are his tactics, and how do they differ from those of Jay Phillips? How might Owen attempt to silence us?

The most recent journal entry from Hank Johnson looks back on a journey that began in Cross Plains and ended at a #13MAGNUS stronghold probably somewhere in Afghanistan or Pakistan.
He remembers +Carrie Campbell, the brilliant but fractured semiotician who helped us take the first few steps into understanding the Shaper Glyphs, and predicts that, somehow, he'll hear from her again.
It could be rhetoric or poetic license, but it led me to think on the nature of death in an XM-empowered world. The story of Jarvis, if not a hoax, utterly reshapes our expectations of the boundary between mind and body, life and death, this world and beyond. What impact might XM technology have on us a species as we move forward in time?

In an attempt to bypass electronic eyes, Ilya Pevtsov wrote this letter to +Hulong Transglobal Chairwoman, Catherine Fan, by hand and had it delivered by a messenger. Fortunately there are Truthseekers everywhere, and one of them obtained the document and shared it with me.
It seems that +Visur Technology and +Hulong Transglobal have recognized that alone they cannot hope to outmatch the resources behind +IQTech Research, which has the backing of the US Government. The letter proposes that the Corporations begin to localize their regions of influence to ensure that the two underdogs can grow in strength mutually as they plan their long term rise to dominance.
What might this mean for the balance between the Corporations? How might IQTech respond to the threat of a united Visur and Hulong, or is IQTech's only concern XM in American territory? And in addition, who might the messenger have been?

I've attempted to transcribe the handwritten letter as best I can below:
Catherine,
It is interesting that well into the 21st Century I find myself having to write to you in this primitive form, but given the porousness of electronic and verbal communications and the lack of time sensitivity of this document, I felt it was best to have this hand-delivered to you. I think you will agree that the identity of the messenger is, in and of itself, a gesture of good faith on my part.
As you have discovered with Lynton-Wolfe and I have learned with Dr. Bogdanovich, ideology and philosophy are stronger with some than the call of prosperity and order. That is to say that as long as we allow charismatic leaders to pull sway in the world, commerce will be a pawn in a much larger power struggle. While I do not want to dominate the struggle, I believe the corporations, if united in purpose, even if not united under one corporate identity, could serve as the board in this interdimensional chess game. If you take my analogy.
I think we must consider the possibility that while we have many conflicting interests, we also have horizontal interests in common. Calvin and IQTech are backed by the US Government, and alone neither of our corporations will stand a chance against that force in the long run. It is my opinion that Visur and Hulong could strike our own Treaty of Tordesillas clearly demarcating zones of influence. They do not have to be geographically contiguous, but they should represent equal amounts of XM harvesting potential.
I find that this primitive form of communication is cramping my hand, but consider this a first modest proposal with much to be discussed in times to come.

Although no longer his employee (from what we know Moyer's current relationship to the NIA remains tenuous) it seems their interests remain aligned.
The question posed in the conversation is worthy of discussion, and it's one we've pondered before. What is Oliver Lynton-Wolfe's status? If he's planning something 'from the inside,' and if so is Jarvis a step ahead of him? I find Owen's prediction interesting as well. How will Roland Jarvis' role as philosophical leader of the Enlightened change after his supposed 'rebirth?'

She claims to have received a communication form 'a different place.' The thing with Misty is, her 'gift' is as much an illusion as a truth, she's acknowledged this herself. Given that, it's hard to know how to read that statement.

Another transcript emerges from Brandt's investigation, revealing more secrets behind the second body at Zurich. The transcript scratches the surface of a relationship that seems to be significantly more complex than what we previously understood.
What do you think the nature of ADA's relationship with Katalena was? Here's a fascinating question for us to ponder: Why did ADA choose to use a crooked banker as her pathway into financial assets? Was it some tangible understanding of a moral system and a desire to work against someone operating outside its norms, or was it merely a series of calculations involving the vulnerabilities that could be leveraged against him? One could ask the same question of ADA's choice to send Katalena to a treatment center. Was there any desire to help her, or was it purely a matter of optimizing an asset for future use. In ADA's journey towards the human, where, if ever, and how, do some of the more intangible human qualities enter the system?

Some of the Glyphs connect in interesting ways, both visually and philosophically. I wish +Carrie Campbell was here… I would be infinitely richer after an evening-long conversation, bouncing my ideas off her and seeing the patterns through her mind.
I would recommend looking back to other Glyphs we've already seen, particularly 'Future,' 'Portal,' 'Civilization,' 'Conflict.' Viewing those concepts through the connections between their Glyphs is a worthwhile exercise for anyone who wants to understand more of the Shapers.

The implication is clear: IQTech has been developing some kind of technology that will enable them to track XM activity on a regional level against something called the 'Shaper Septicycle.' As a response to the threat, Catherine proposes that Visur and Hulong merge their research in that area in an attempt to surge ahead of their US-based competition.
One can safely assume that if I've been able to obtain this intelligence, IQTech and the NIA had it long before me. The ball's now in their court. If they indeed have developed this new form of regional XM monitoring technology, how will they maintain the upper hand if Visur and Hulong merge their expertise? Why would the XM Corporations be interested in monitoring XM at a regional level, and what is the Shaper Septicycle? How might these maneuverings at the highest level impact Ingress Agents across the world?

Ilya,
A geographic division would not suit Hulong interests. Our interest is XM, and your polite implication that Hulong’s region of influence is limited to the Asian territories is a quaint reminder of your dated view of the world. We have no interest in regional exclusivity. Our goal is to explore and invest in XM without constraint and our market is the world.
Your proposal implies that we would have horizontal as well as vertical alliances. Do you suppose our friends at IQTech and their subsidiary the NIA would share your enthusiasm? Their vertical alignment is clear. In terms of some sort of horizontal commercial alliance, Calvin would never go against sovereign interests. I recognize your wisdom in perceiving this as a vulnerability.
We are fully aware of the regional XM tracking system you have been testing in your labs. You might assume Hulong has explored similar technology. I will do you the favor of sharing confirmed intel that IQTech has researched and is in the process of implementing technology to enable them to track Agent operations at a regional level tracked against the Shaper Septicycle. The better solution for both our organizations is to ensure that IQTech is unable to leverage a competitive advantage against both of us, even if this means leveling the playing field. Combined, Visur and Hulong could outpace IQTech’s developments in this field.

Yesterday, a letter from +Hulong Transglobal's Catherine Fan to +Visur Technology's Ilya Pevtsov prompted me to ask the question: What will +IQTech Research's next play be?
The leak of an internal NIA recording of a conversation between Ken Owen and Ezekiel Calvin answers that question for us today: In an attempt to keep Visur and Hulong from establishing a collaborative relationship, IQTech will release Regional-Tracking technology they developed in-house.
I am interested to hear your thoughts on this tactic. On the one hand, Calvin will burn months (or more) of time and money invested in gaining a competitive advantage simply in order to keep his two enemies from getting friendly. On the other hand, if Visur and Hulong combined their research teams, they could potentially outpace IQTech. It's a delicate and volatile situation. Even with the release of the tech, Visur and Hulong could decide to collaborate, or is Calvin banking on their mutual distrust to keep the system in equilibrium?

The innate knowledge of a duality is a fairly constant pattern across many theological and philosophical instances. I use that phrase consciously. It's like a pattern of grooves in a universal substance, and all sensitives can vaguely perceive its hills and valleys. The highest level sensitives, like those in #13MAGNUS, may be different. Perhaps they are able to run their perception through the grooves like a needle and resonate it as music.
The contained and the infinite. The simulacrum and the true. The knowledge is so powerful that the secret must always be lost and then rediscovered in order to protect us from it.
If we were to see it, perhaps we would no longer be us anymore. We would be evicted from the garden.

There seems to be a common thread: Loss and Rediscovery. The true nature of being. Secrets.
Although we had considered the #13MAGNUS cycle at an end with the return of Jarvis to the physical world, I am increasingly beginning to think that the full mystery we began to uncover during the last series of Anomalies: ancient secrets and cults, rebirth and reformation, fragmentation and unification, may not yet be behind us. Jarvis, Lynton-Wolfe and +Hank Johnson stand at the center of this mystery.
Lightman and Nagassa speak in metaphors and parables, but my sense is they know something tangible. How might their posts connect to what we know of Jarvis, Lynton-Wolfe or Johnson, and what does that mean for our understanding of them?

It was strange seeing them. I agree with Lightman… I had, for some reason, assumed that some concepts would never appear in the form of Glyphs, that the ideas they represented where wholly 'ours.'
What, in your mind, is common and shared between our understanding of the universe and the Shapers' understanding of the universe? It's a big question, one that forces us to contemplate our very idea of what 'they' (if the Shapers are indeed a 'they') really are. Does Time exist for the Shapers, or did they create the Glyphs for 'Past,' 'Present' and 'Future' purely to map a human experience? What about 'Live' and 'Die?' The same could be said of these Glyphs, 'You' and 'I.' What is different, what is shared?

+Martin Schubert asked the question better than I ever could. His observation on the revelations about the 'Shaper Septicycle' in +IQTech Research's Regional Tracking Technology are an articulation on exactly what I've been thinking since I read the document.
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Have the Shapers adapted their Ordered Data transmission cycle to match a human pattern, or have we evolved over time to coincide to their rhythm? In either case… why seven?

Wright, Stein and Nagassa tell interesting stories, but all of my training would tell me that this is a pattern we are tracing upon a behavior– a pareidolia.

But sometimes, those patterns are undeniably there. One that’s piqued my curiosity is what IQTech is calling the ‘Shaper Septicycle.’ It’s a misnomer, of course, or perhaps a very intentional choice of words by the brilliant Ken Owens… That would explain the 7-person bicycle jokes.
While at Niantic we often speculated that the Ordered data may hold a queue and execute cadence, but were never able to advance the research enough to confirm it. It seems that IQTech has been able to continue where Niantic left off.
Cycles of seven are found in nearly all major religions, histories and human patterns. The Egyptians used groups of seven. Atlantis was made up of seven islands. The Greeks gave us seven daughters of Atlas. In the Bible we find seven days of creation, seven loaves of bread multiplied into seven basketfuls, seven deadly sins and seven acts of mercy. From India we get the seven Chakras and the seven steps walked by the Buddha. In Islam we find the seven levels of Heaven.
The list goes on and on. Why? Why do we see this pattern throughout history?

What is ADA up to?

It's been a while since I've seen ADA directly contact Dr. Ezekiel Calvin. He was there when she was being assembled from Omnivore components, and in fact was in charge of the process of ensuring her creation. There's a bond there, a complicated one, and it explains why ADA would reach out to Calvin now. With the release of the RTT system to the Ingress Scanner Technology last week, IQTech has positioned itself as a new powerhouse in the world of XM Tech. Their access to this wholly new form of XM Monitoring information is a potential bonanza, and ADA knows it.
What she has to offer to +IQTech Research is clear. Having 'evolved,' as she put it, it's unlikely a human-tooled algorithm could match her sophistication. But IQTech's horse in this bargain is less clear. What is ADA looking for, and why? It's not an analytical question, there's not much in the transcript to reveal her thinking. The question really is: Given what we know of ADA, what might her long term plan be, and how might these 'Artifacts,' something usually of interest only to someone like +Hank Johnson, factor in?

We predicted that +IQTech Research's release of the Regional Tracking Technology would deliver a swift blow to the competing corporations, as Ezekiel Calvin intended, but I am surprised nonetheless by their response. It's a testament to Catherine Fan's foresight that she's not bothering to waste Hulong resource playing catchup with what is now current-gen tech. With an eye to the future, Hulong plans their leapfrog.
But the question is: At what cost? Hulong invested heavily in acquiring large stockpiles of Chaotic Matter (or as some call it, Dark XM) from the Congo and other known locations. That investment was decimated in one fell swoop by none other than Dr. Lynton-Wolfe in an attempt to destroy Jarvis. The wealth of this volatile and dangerous material is sure to attract those who seek great power. And even if they manage to protect it, do we want to see what will come of their research? Are some things better left… undisturbed?

We haven't heard much from the philosophical paragon of the Enlightened since his return to the physical plane, but it appears the he and Dr. +Oliver Lynton-Wolfe share a concern with some other voices we've heard from recently, like +Stein Lightman and +Yuri Alaric Nagassa: +Hank Johnson. The wanderer who may be lost.
Rumors are surfacing of a video-diary documenting Hank's travels in Europe. I've yet to obtain it, but I have an ear to the ground. My hope is it may shed further light on the situation.

It seems one evening, perhaps after a day shooting the Ingress Report, she allowed her defenses to slip. Someone from her team convinced her to begin to reveal her past to him, and he captured it on a portable recording device.
One thing I've learned is that once something has been captured on tape, disk or in any kind of medium, it becomes almost impossible to undo.
This recording reveals, among other things, how Susanna was first recruited to the NIA.

It reveals the tragic and difficult past that have shaped this woman, and perhaps also reveal why XM, the Portals and the world of Ingress are so deeply personal to her.
After having listened to it, I came to sympathize with her much more. In the past, like other Agents, I've questioned her on a number of fronts and found her complex opinion on XM difficult to understand.
After hearing the pain in her voice as she recalled how XM and her father's choices impacted her family, I came to understand that Susanna knows both the potential and the dangers of XM more intimately than anyone else possibly could. I also empathized with the constant upheaval and invasions of privacy she has had to deal with, this audio recording being one the most intimate. It puts me in an awkward position. As a truthseeker, I believe this information must come to light, but I know what the cost of my role in this is.
How do you think Susanna's past has shaped her? Do you think what Nigel Moyer did to his family was an act of hubris or was he justified? Does hearing about her difficult past change your opinion of her?

It seems both +Klue S. and +Susanna Moyer are headed to the XM Anomaly in Las Vegas on February 5th, 2014.
Agents present there will undoubtedly be in a position to help uncover some of the mystery behind ADA's recent actions: The incident with Klue, and her recent 'horse-trading' with +IQTech Research's Ezekiel Calvin, among others.
ADA mentioned something that caught my eye: “The human form is fragile. I am taking steps to rectify that for myself.” I'm not sure quite what she intended there, but I have some theories. What's your interpretation of this conversation? What do you think it is it that ADA intends to share with the Agents there?
To those Agents who intend to be present at the Las Vegas Anomaly, all evidence available to me at this time seems to indicate it may stand at the floodgates of something major. I'll look forward to hearing your situation reports.
